Job Title: Medical AID Executive: Legal Services Compliance
Location: PretoriaRemuneration: Annual cost to company of R2.3 million
Department/Unit: Governance, Compliance & Legal Services
Must have 5 Years Experience in Medical Aid industry
Reporting to: Principal Officer (PO)Direct Reports:
- Manager: Compliance & Legal Services
- Administrator: Compliance
Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Governance, Compliance & Legal Services Department. Ensure the organization meets all legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements. Support the Board of Trustees and senior leadership through expert guidance on compliance, legal, and governance matters.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and align the department's operational plans with the organization's strategic goals.
- Design compliance, governance, and legal frameworks and policies.
- Collaborate with the executive team to ensure integrated, cross-functional planning.
Legal Advisory Services:
- Provide expert legal advice and manage litigation, contracts, and disputes.
- Draft, review, and implement legal documents, Scheme rules, and compliance strategies.
- Lead litigation and represent the organization at regulatory tribunals.
Compliance Oversight:
- Develop and sustain robust compliance and ethical systems across the organization.
- Monitor legislative changes and integrate them into frameworks.
- Train stakeholders and build a strong compliance culture.
Governance Support:
- Prepare governance frameworks, charters, and reports for the Board and committees.
- Manage secretariat services and organize the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Conduct governance training for internal stakeholders.
Budget & Stakeholder Management:
- Oversee departmental budget planning and resource allocation.
- Manage external stakeholder relationships, including interactions with regulators.
Team Leadership:
- Develop, manage, and mentor the department's staff.
- Drive talent management and foster a high-performance culture.
- Education: LLB or BA Law, Admission as Attorney/Practicing Advocate.
- Experience:
- 10+ years in Legal, Risk, and Compliance (5+ years in senior management).
- Medical Aid industry experience is preferred.
- Skills & Competencies: Executive management, stakeholder management, legal advisory, human resources management, and governance expertise.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based role requiring occasional travel.
