Technical Manager: Facilities

The Role:

The Technical Manager Facilities is responsible for managing the full technical operations of commercial and retail properties.

This includes ensuring optimal performance of HVAC systems, electrical infrastructure, lifts, generators, elevators, and other critical facility systems.

The role requires proactive planning, maintenance, compliance with health and safety standards, and the ability to respond quickly to technical and operational issues to ensure business continuity.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree or National Diploma (T4 or S4) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 57 years experience in technical roles involving mechanical, electrical, and electronics systems
  • Experience in managing large-scale retail, commercial, or industrial properties
  • Project management experience is advantageous

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of technical systems and building infrastructure
  • Excellent knowledge of statutory requirements, including OHS, SHE, BCE Acts
  • Financial and budgeting skills, including the ability to manage and report on budgets
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer literacy
  • Contract management and procurement policy knowledge
  • Strong report writing and presentation abilities
  • Knowledge of alternative energy solutions (e.g., solar, rainwater harvesting)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the technical operations and ensure the effective functioning of building systems
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
  • Compile five-year rolling maintenance plans aligned with strategic goals
  • Manage and evaluate the performance of contractors and service providers
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain high operational standards
  • Engage with tenants to resolve operational issues and ensure lease compliance
  • Conduct regular team meetings, staff performance reviews, and training.
  • Implement sustainability initiatives and monitor utility consumption
  • Maintain a proactive approach to equipment lifecycle management
