Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and monitor systems to ensure high availability, security, and performance.
  • Automate routine system administration tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with development teams to deploy and manage applications in production environments.
  • Configure and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or similar platforms).
  • Implement continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system and network issues promptly.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging DevOps and system administration technologies and best practices.

 Requirements:
  • 1-3 years of experience in a DevOps or System Administration role.
  • Strong understanding of Linux/Unix systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and virtualisation technologies.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and scripting (Bash, Python, etc.).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Bonus: Knowledge of Ceph software defined storage.
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex system issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
  • Must be based in South Africa, with preference given to candidates in or near Cape Town who can work onsite at least one day per week.
  • Bonus: Interest or experience in science, astronomy, or working on data-intensive systems.
