My client is looking for a Payroll Manager to lead and manage end-to-end payroll processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.

This role is based in Springs, Johannesburg East.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage payroll tax processing, including PAYE, UIF, SDL, and tax directive requests.
  • Calculate and pay tax liabilities in accordance with employee compensation and applicable regulations; file EMP201s with SARS.
  • Conduct comprehensive reconciliations for payroll, general ledger accounts, banking, UIF, SDL, and PAYE to ensure data integrity.
  • Handle financial postings by applying accurate accounting codes and structures; process vendor payments, UIF contributions, and third-party account clearances.
  • Generate and analyse payroll reports covering leave and bonus provisions, fixed expenses, allowances, and tax liabilities. Submit statutory declarations, including COIDA.
  • Maintain internal control frameworks, monitor compliance, identify control deficiencies, and implement tools to enhance control effectiveness.
  • File and e-file payroll control documents to support audit and regulatory compliance.
  • Address and resolve complex payroll queries from both employees and management.
  • Supervise payroll system performance, evaluate processes, train users, and report on system metrics.
  • Lead employee performance, development, and relations efforts within the payroll team; support management in fostering a positive working environment.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant documentation and month-end reporting.
  • Prepare integrated and comprehensive payroll reports for Operations.
  • Collaborate with auditors to ensure successful execution of external audit processes.
  • Support Employment Equity and Stats SA reporting through accurate data submission.
  • Assist with broader accounting duties as needed.
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • BCom degree in Accounting/Finance
  • 10 years proven experience in a Payroll Manager or senior payroll role
  • Strong knowledge of South African tax and payroll legislation
  • Experience in EMP201 submissions and SARS eFiling
  • Solid understanding of payroll systems, financial reconciliations, and general accounting principles
