Junior IT Technician
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Junior IT / Audiovisual Technician is there to support the IT Department. Some of his/her responsibilities include troubleshooting, answering employees' technical questions and providing general technical support and overseeing the Audiovisual needs of the school.The Junior IT / Audiovisual Technician ensures the Schools computer equipment is configured to conform to established guidelines. S/he maintains all terminals and peripherals including printers, VOIP phones, laptops/computers, sound equipment, Digital lighting and mobile devices etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of Grade 12 plus an IT/Technical Diploma. A
Technical Degree would be an advantage.
EXPERIENCE
At least 3 years experience within a similar role.
NOTE: The above job description reflects the general requirements necessary to describe

MEASURES OF SUCCESS
Provide Technical Desktop Support
(Hardware and Software):
- Deploy new software and hardware, troubleshooting, and perform regular upgrades of network (Laptops, PCs, Tablets, Chromebooks, Printers, Mobile devices)
- Desktop Support - Users: (Staff and Learners) including setting up new users, resetting passwords, training
- Troubleshoot VOIP related issues
- All technical support queries are dealt with within the appropriate timeframes
Systems Administration:
- Provide assistance to the IT Manager within maintenance of the Microsoft and Linux Servers:
- Microsoft Servers (File Servers),
- Print Server (Ysoft), Wi-Fi Network (Ruckus Wi-Fi System, controller
- Annually conduct an audit to determine needs for upgrades and areas of improvement
- Set up and operate audio and video equipment (including, but not limited to sound mixing consoles, amplifiers, microphones, loudspeakers, rigging and programming lights, projectors
- Manage the Digital lighting and Sound related requests across campus efficiently
presentations, and conferences.
- Maintenance and operation (including planning, organising and implementing) of performance related equipment at the various venues, including all sound, lights, video, projector and IT hardware; during events, rehearsals, performances, and academic assessments.
- Budget for and arrange purchases of technology that continually looks to future developments and meets the schools agenda for use of said technology.
- Supervise and train Theatre Crew/The Performance Company
- Evaluate equipment needs, testing of equipment, and notify IT Manager of any repair or replacement needs as well as contacting relevant service providers to complete repairs.
- Be on site to assist in performances and deal with technical emergencies or issues as required this will include after-hours work at times.
- Operate and support theatre lighting desk when required
- Operate and run-of-show of theatre sound mixing desk and lighting desk when required.
Manage IT Asset register:
- Keep records of the location and status of all IT equipment.
- Arrange for the safe disposal of old and scrapped equipment (Recycling
- IT/Audio Visual Asset register is maintained on an ongoing basis
- Hours of work: contractually 7.15 am - 4pm daily Mon- Fri
- Salary bracket: R10 - 12K per month
- Leave: Most of school holidays etc (minimum 22 days per annum)
- Excellent computer skills, professional, customer service experience, general IT Tech duties.
- Late evenings and weekends due to functions that require audio-visual assistance.
- The ideal candidate should preferably be mobile or have access to reliable transport.
